The Madison Artists Guild was founded in 1985 by a handful of talented local artists who enjoyed getting together to work, socialize, and share ideas. Since then we’ve grown to more than 150 members and managed to remain a grassroots organization with a diverse, inclusive, and informal character.

Mission: Madison Artists Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the education in and encouragement of artistic endeavor in its members and the community through planned programs and regular gatherings.

Membership: Among our membership are painters, photographers, graphic artists and illustrators, writers, poets, woodworkers, carvers, jewelry makers, musicians, potters, fabric artists, faux finishers, gardeners, and food artisans, as well as people who just LIKE art! Our membership includes professional artists and amateurs, those who are just learning and those whose work is very advanced, and people who are gathering their courage to just try. We draw from all of Morgan County; some members come from as far away as Macon, Lawrenceville, Monroe, Athens, Cumming, Atlanta, Watkinsville, Augusta, and even Arkansas!

Funding: We are a 501(c)(3) non profit organization funded through donations, grants, and admissions fees for classes and programs. Members are assessed a modest annual dues.

Activities: In addition to regular monthly meetings, which are open to members and nonmembers alike, the Guild conducts such community programs as the Gingerbread Workshop (for children), holds open-to-the-public juried shows of members’ and other artists’ works, partners with the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art and the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center in selected endeavors, and participates in fund-raising efforts both for the Guild and for other organizations.

This year’s programs include The XLG SHOW @ TOWN 22O – 4 quarterly shows of the Large Works of 6 artists, Art Naturale – An exhibit of work at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia, Georgia in Bloom – a city-wide art show celebrating the beauty of spring in the Piedmont, Tour of Homes Paint Out, Twilight Paint Out at the Firefly Festival, Fall Photo Show, Morsberger-Huffington Show – Works of Philip Morsberger and Anita Huffington presented by MAG at the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art.

Members also have the opportunity to show and sell their work at the Guild Cottage Gallery at 248 W. Jefferson St., Madison, at the Shops at The Meiere House Gallery on South Main Street, Madison.

The Guild also offers classes and workshops to the community from our Education Center at 140 E. Washington St. Examples of our class offerings are Jewelry Making for Children, Sculpting the Head in Clay, Egg Tempera Painting, Culinary Classes, Drawing for Young Artists, Oil Painting, the list goes on!

Administration: The Guild is guided by a paid Executive Director and a volunteer, elected Board of Directors consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. We also have an Advisory Board made up of community members who may or may not be Guild members. In addition, we have various committee heads such as newsletter chair, membership, webmaster, and blog meister! Because of our ambitious program goals, our need is ongoing for volunteers at every level. Those who have given their time have found it rewarding, and we welcome member participation.

How to Join: To join, please attend one of our upcoming meetings (check the Calendar page on this website), fill out a membership form, and submit it along with your membership fee. Fees are $15 student, $25 individual, $35 family, $100 corporate, due annually in September. . You may also go to the Membership Info page and join from there.
