My painting practice has naturally evolved from my practice as an architect and designer. My painted work is an attempt to capture the essence of all “lost” and “rejected” spaces and shapes that are not buildable or do not fit into the mold of the architectural project.  I see painting as a mean to express my creativity in a pure distilled form. When I paint, I enter a private world where I am free to explore unknown abstract spaces. For me, space represents potential and hope.

I pour, drip, and throw layers of paint on loose untreated cotton duct canvas, placed flat on the floor, draped, or inclined. I move, tilt, and fold the loose canvas to allow the paint to seek out free but deliberate shapes and patterns. Sometimes I use staining and rubbing to create atmospheric backgrounds for subsequent layers of paint. My whole body and mind participate in the act of painting. The painting itself becomes the projected two dimensional image of a three dimensional gesture. I look upon the line, and the drawing of a line, as the most elemental and pure form of human expression. My paintings attempt to free the line from literal meaning, while linking it to emotional expressions. I search for a calligraphy of emotions and physical gesture.

When I allow the liquid paint to fly and pour freely over the canvas, I consciously introduce a component of risk and improvisation into the creation process. This method of painting forces me to be flexible and open to new explorations. It also forces me to be utterly present in the moment; it is my personal way of celebrating this precious life.
